Satyanarayan Puja Preparation
Hindus offer their prayers and rituals usually through a puja performed in temples or homes. Satyanarayan puja is done at home, with the main goal being to bring good omen and blessings from the Lord back home. As Hindus worship Lord Vishnu, one of the Hindu Trimurti gods, they also perform Satyanarayan puja simultaneously. Satyanarayan’s names apply to the Lord who lived in Andhra Pradesh well before 400 CE; he was the Lord of the Hindus, and Lord Vishnu’s incarnation. There are five different parts f of the Satyanarayan puja representing one stage of this ritual with the placement of idols.
Preparing for Satyanarayan Swami Puja
It’s very important to collect all the things required for the puja before the puja. That is the first planning phase. Buy all the items according to the list, and put them in the room where the puja is to be performed.
Spread a clean, fresh cloth in a clean room on top of a square and raised platform on puja day. This shall serve the purpose of the altar. Sprinkle through the cloth some holy rice rains, and put the pious Kalash on the same. Now, you must drape the second piece of cloth over that Kalash, and then place the Vishnu image on that cloth.
Devotees gathering around the altar should sit in lotus position before the puja starts. Light up all the lamps before praying to the Lord. Offer your prayers to Lord Vishnu, Ganesha, and Shiva, before the real puja begins. To Goddesses, Parvati and Lakshmi give your prayers. Arrange and put multiple flower garlands over the deities ‘ images.
Place the turmeric pods representing God’s Shiva and Ganesha, the goddesses Parvati and Lakshmi and the Lord Indra right on the altar facing north of Kalash. Now, the nine planets and the sun must be worshiped by placing some betel leaves on them with areca nuts. Ultimately, to represent the seven deities and Lord Indra of the eight quarters of the world, you must lay those areca nuts on the betel levels.

This puja is to be best performed in the evening according to Hindu beliefs. It can deliver good results. There’s no harm in doing that morning ritual though. Devotees have to fast on the proposed puja day until the puja is complete. The purpose of depriving oneself of food is to make sure that before, during or after the puja no negative thoughts or desires come to mind. Once the puja has finished, devotees may seek Lord Satyanarayan’s blessings and break their fast by taking Prasadam.

- Milk 2 ½ Cups
- Cardamoms 2 [Finely powdered]

The Satyanarayan Katha – Story Behind the Ritual
The puja’s originated from the Purana Skanda. The story is told by a rishi, Sutha Puranik, who narrates the tale to a group of rishis performing yajna for the benefit of humanity for a thousand years. The rishis asked Sutha Pramanik how his desires could have been fulfilled by an individual with ethical and life-affirming desires.
Sutha further clarified that Narada, another great rishi and the son of Lord Bramha or the founder had also asked this same question. Narada is a famous character who appears as an instigator in Vedic mythology who could set everything in motion. He had the best sense of humor and mischief.
In this story, Narada is shown to traverse the whole universe before arriving on Earth, or Bhuloka. He found on earth that many people were suffering from a past life because they worked with their karma. This filled him with compassion for those suffering, and he went to Lord Vishnu and asked if there was anything that could be done to help them.
They were great friends, Narada and Lord Vishnu. In turn, Vishnu asked Narada for the suggestion. Narada then explained that there is a puja that everybody can perform to eliminate their life’s sufferings; it’s called the Satyanarayan puja. He also added that everyone can do this puja; there is no need to have a priest, at any time without waiting for an auspicious moment. Apart from that, as part of the Satyanarayan Katha, there are other stories that make this ritual a celebration.
Sri Satya Narayan Vrat Katha
Shrivayas Ji said-At one time in the pilgrimage of Naimisharanya, all Shounak’s wise men and women asked Veta Sreesutji Maharaj of Puranastra-Mahamune! We all want to know what one gets from the desired fruit quickly or austerely, you claim.
Mr. Sutji said-Similarly, when Devarshi Naradji also told you, Lord Kamalapati said what he was saying to him, you people should listen carefully. Once upon a time, Yogi Naradji came to the land of death, wandering through different worlds, desiring for the welfare of the people, and here he saw all the beings born in the maternal grandfathers suffering various tribulations and according to their karma,’ by what means are their guarantees guaranteed? He went into Vishnulok thinking in his head. There, after seeing the four-armed conch, Chakra, mace, Padma, and Vanamala, Shuklavarna, to whom Lord Shree Narayana worshiped, began to praise him.
Narada ji said-O voice and beyond existence, infinite force, devoid of the middle and the end, full of nirguna and gross qualities of welfare due to the real-world Nikhilpripanch, and destroying the misery of devotees!
Lord Shri Vishnu Ji said to Narada Ji-Maha Bhag while he listened to the praise! What do you have in mind for what reason you have come here for? Sure, I’ll tell you all.
Says Narada Ji-God! All the people born in different yonies are dissatisfied with the many kinds of tribulations in the deaths caused by their sins. Hi Nath! With what small measure may their sufferings be alleviated, if you have mercy on me then I want to hear all of that. Tell him what to do
Mr. Bhagavan has said-O Watts! You have asked with a wish to grace the universe, a very good thing. Let me tell you the quickness that frees the creature from attachment. O, son! O son! Lord Satyanarayana’s great virtuoso fast, rare in heaven and death. I am telling him right now, because of your affection. A person can attain happiness and attain salvation in the hereafter by fasting Lord Satyanarayana with a good method.
Such a voice of God, Narada Muni said-Prabho, what is the consequence of observing this fast? What is the Code thereof? Who has done this quickly and when should it happen? Explain that in depth.
Shri Bhagavan said, “This fast Satyanarayana is a suppressor of sorrow, grief, wealth gain, good fortune, and childhood, and will give victory everywhere. Any day, a person should be ready with religion with Brahmins and brothers in coordination with devotion and reverence and worship Lord Satyanarayana in the evening. As a Naivedya, the devotional food should be offered in good quantity. All these devotional ingredients should be collected and requested in sufficient quantities in the absence of banana fruits, ghee, milk, wheat powder or wheat powder, sathi rice powder, sugar or jaggery.
Having heard the story of Lord Sri Satyanarayana along with the brothers, Brahmins would send Dakshina. Afterward, the brothers should be fed to the Brahmins. Devotional offerings should be arranged by dance-song etc. Afterward, he should go to his house, remembering Lord Satyanarayan. By doing this, it definitely fulfills the human desire. It is the smallest remedy on Earth, particularly in Kali Yuga.
Shreesutji answered-O Dwijs! Now in the past, I’m going to say this in-depth which I’ve done this quick Satyanarayana. A very poor Brahmin lived in a town called the enchanting Kashi. He was plagued by hunger and thirst and walked the world day after day. Brahmin Dear Lord, seeing this unhappy Brahmin, taking the form of an old Brahmin, politely asked the Dwij-O Vipra! Why do you still feel very sad to visit the planet every day? Twilight yeah! Tell me, I want to know all of this.
The Brahmin was saying-Lord! I am a Brahmin who is very poor, and I wander the earth for alms. If you know of any idea for eradicating my misery, please kindly tell me.
Older Brahmin said-O Dev Brahman! Satyanarayana Lord Vishnu is about to bear the fruit it wants. Hello Vipra! You fast them, a person is released from all sorrows by doing this.
There Lord Vishnu, who is an ancient Brahmin, became attentive by faithfully stating the law of fasting. ‘ As the old Brahmin said, I’m going to do that quickly in a good way ‘-thinking the Brahmin couldn’t sleep in the evening.
He got up early in the morning the next day and took a vow to do’ Satyanarayana’ and he left for Brahmin alms with such a resolve. The Brahmin was getting a lot of money in begging that day. He’d fasted Lord Satyanarayana with his captives with the same wealth. The superior Brahmin was freed from all miseries and became full of all possessions because of the effect of this fast. He observed this fast from that day until every month. Therefore, by performing this Lord Satyanarayana’s fast, the Brahmin superior was released from all sins, and he attained the rare Mokshapad.
Hi Vipra! Every time a person on earth practices Sri Satyanarayana, all his sufferings will be extinguished at the same time. Hey, you Brahmins! In this way, I asked you all what Lord Narayana said to Mahatma Naradji, what else can I say next?
Hi! Who’s heard of that Brahmin on this planet fasting this? We want to hear all that, on that short, we are honored.
Mr. Sut Ji answered-Munis! Whoever on earth has done this early, you people should listen to him. Once the Dwijshrestha was determined to fast with her brothers and family according to his wealth. While there came a woodcutter, laid the wood out and went to the house of the Brahmin. Seeing Brahmin fasting, overcome with hunger, he bowed to him and said to him-Lord! Tell me in-depth on what you are doing and what is the result of doing this.
Vipra said – This is Satyanarayana’s quick, who will give all the wishes. With that impact, I got all this great wealth, and so on. He went to the city after he had drunk water and offered offers. For Satyanarayana Dev, he began to think from his mind that’ Today, with the riches you will earn from selling wood, with that money, I will make the best of Lord Satyanarayana.’ In this way, holding the wood on his head, thinking carefully, went to a beautiful city where the rich people lived. He had earned twice the value of wood that day.
After this, he came home in a full heart with the quantity of ripe banana fruit, sugar, ghee, milk, and wheat powder. He named his brothers after that and by law followed Lord Sri Satyanarayana. Because of the impact of that fast, he became rich with money and family and finally went to Satyapur i.e. after enjoying many pleasures in this world. With Baikunthalok.
Mr. Sutji said, “Great Monsters!” Now I’m going to tell you the story again, guys are listening. There was a King called Ulkamukh in ancient times. He was very zealous, honest and wise. The learned king used to go every day to the temple, and appease the Brahmins. His wife was full of grace, modesty, and elegance and so on with a smile like a lotus. The king was one day fasting with his wife on the banks of the Srisatyanarayana on the banks of the Bhadrashila River. At the same time a trader named Sadhu, who was rich in different types of Pushkar currency, came for business there. Putting the boat on the banks of the Bhadrashila river, he went to the king’s side and began to ask politely, seeing King Dixit on that fast.
The monk replied -Rajan! How do you do in a devotional mind? Please let them all know, I want to hear at this moment.
The king was saying-O go! I fast and worship Atul Tejas, Lord Vishnu, with my brothers and sisters, desirous of having a son, etc.
The monk had said politely after listening to the king-Rajan! Tell me everything in detail in this subject, I will be fasting and worshiping according to your order. I, too, have no kids. It will definitely bring offspring.’ After realizing this, he retired from the company and joyfully returned to his house. He expanded on this Satyavrat, who gave birth to his Bhariya, and-‘ I will do this quickly when I get a boy ‘-so the monk told his Bharata Lilavati.
One day, Sati-Sadhvi called her Lilavati, happy with her husband, entered into seasonal rituals and she became her Indian womb by the grace of Lord Sri Sathyanarayana. Kanyaratna was born from it in the tenth month, and it began to increase day by day like Shuklapaksha’s moon. The name of the child was’ Kalavati.’ After this Lilavati said in a sweet voice to her master-Why don’t you follow Shri Satyanarayana’s vow in the past?
The monk said-” Love! It will be quick when he marries. Therefore, he went to the city to do business, after assuring his wife well. Kanya Kalavati grew up in her father’s house here. Subsequently, the religious monk, playing with friends in town, seeing his daughter as marriageable, consulted among themselves to’ explore the best groom for the girl’s marriage’-by sending the messenger shortly after sending him. The messenger, after receiving his instructions, went to a town called Kanchan and brought from there the son of a forester. Seeing that Vanik’s wife, beautiful and full of virtues, the monk, pleased with his caste people and the brothers and sisters, by law donated the girl in Vanikaputra’s hands.
The sadhu baniya regrettably missed God’s best time at that moment. According to the earlier declaration, at the time of the marriage, God was furious with him for not fasting. He went to the beautiful town of Ratnasarpur near the sea after some time, skilled in his trade, to do business with his son-in-law under the influence of the Sadhu Baniya dynasty, and began to trade there with his dear son-in-law. Afterward they both went to King Chandraketu’s delightful place. At the same time, he was cursed by Lord Shree Sathyanarayana, thinking he was crooked,’ it’s going to be painful, hard and great sorrow.’
One day a robber stole the money from King Chandraketu and arrived at the same place where the two foresters were found. Seeing the messengers running behind him, he soon fled, fearfully leaving the money there. After that, messengers from the king arrived where he had been a monk. Seeing the riches of the king there, those messengers tied the two Vanikaputras and carried them to the king running and said cheerfully-‘ God! We captured two thieves, as you’re directing these. Both were soon strongly bound by the king’s orders, and thrown into the great prison without thought. Because of Lord Satyadev’s Maya, no one listened to both of them and King Chandraketu even took the riches of both.
His wife also became very sad in Vanik’s house because of God’s curse and the thief took all of the money in his home. Unhappy with hunger and thirst, Lilavati, suffering from physical and mental pain, began to wander from rate to rate thinking about food. Even kalavati girls started to wander around for food daily. One day Kalavati went to the house of Brahmin suffering from hunger. Going over there, he saw Sreesathyanarayana’s fasting and worship. He heard the story sitting there, and pleaded for a blessing. She went home after a few days, after receiving the offers.
Mother lovingly told the child-daughter Kalavati! How did you spend the night? Kalavati girl immediately asked Mom-Mother what’s on your mind! I’ve seen a Brahmin’s house fast voicing a wish. Hearing the thing about that girl, she was determined to fast on Varnik’s Bhariya and with a happy heart, the Sadhvi fasted Lord Shree Sathyanarayana with her brothers and sisters and prayed in this way-‘ God! Please forgive our husband and mother for their abuse. For long, they both come home. Lord Satyanarayana was pleased with this pace, and showed Nripashresht Chandraketu the dream and said in the dream-‘ Nripreshtha! Leave both the trees in the morning and give them all the money you’ve taken from them at this time, otherwise, I’ll kill you and your son with the riches of the State.
Saying this to the king in a dream, Lord Satyanarayana has become impeded. After this, the king sat in the meeting with his councilors in the morning, telling the people his dream and saying-‘ Be rid of the imprisoned Vanikaputra early.’ Seeing such a thing from the king, he took the two great men free from slavery and brought them before the king and said,’ Maharaj! The two male sons were taken out free of fetters. After this, both the Mahajan were stunned following paying obeisance to Nripashresht Chandraketu, recalling their predecessors and being unable to say anything.
Seeing the king’s sons, the king said politely, “With luck, you have got this great sorrow, now there is no fear at this moment.” In doing that, he opened his fetters and the work was done. By giving clothing, ornaments and naming them in front, the king pleased both of those Vanikaputras and made them very happy by talking. Gave them money that had been taken earlier, by doubling it, after which the king told them again-‘ Sadho! Now you go home. We thank the king’ We’re going through the grace of you.’-Having said this, these two great people left for their homes.
Srisut Ji said-Sadhu Baniya went to his town after he made an invocation and gave Brahmins money. When the sadhu left, Lord Satyanarayana was puzzled about his test of reality-‘ Sadho! What’s up in the boat? Then the two Mahajan’s laughed at the money object with contempt and said-‘ Dandin! Why would you ask? Want to pick up some money? Our boat is brimming with creepers and leaves. Listening to such a rude voice-‘ May your words come true’-saying this, God took the form of a diabolical monk and went away and sat by the sea.
After the Dandi’s daily action, the sadhu was shocked to see the overloaded boat rising upstream in the river, and when he was desperate to see the creeper and leaves in the boat, he dropped down to the earth. Vanikaputra became worried about becoming conscious. The son-in-law then said thus-‘ Why are you grieving? Dandi has cursed, only he can do whatever he wants in this situation, no doubt in that.
So if we go to his shelter then the mind’s wish will be fulfilled. After listening to the son-in-law, the sadhu baniya went to him and seeing Dandi there, he bowed devotedly to him and began to say politely-all All I said before you, you have committed a crime of profanity, you forgive my crime-by saying this again and again. Despite deep chagrin, he bowed.
When Dandi saw her crying, he said-‘ O idiot! Don’t weep, listen to me You have suffered endlessly because you are disrespectful to my worship and only by my orders. Hearing God’s presence like this, he started to worship them.
The monk told me-‘ O Lord! It’s shocking that because you’re fascinated by your illusion, even Brahma’s gods don’t correctly know your qualities and shapes, then how can I fool know because I’m fascinated by your illusion! You are pleased that I am going to worship you according to my wealth. I just came to your shelter. Secure my properties on the yacht and the money I had. Lord Janardan had been pleased after hearing the merchant’s devoted voice.
There Lord Hari became incarnate by offering him the groom desired. After that, the monk boarded his boat and saw him full of riches,’ Our wish is satisfied by the grace of Lord Satyadev ‘-saying that he and his own people worshiped the Lord properly. He got full of joy because of Lord Satyanarayana’s grace and he left for his country after leaving the boat effortlessly. Sadhu Baniya said to his son-in-law, “Look, my town is visible in Ratnapuri.” He then sent his wealth messenger to his town to alert him of his arrival.
After that, the messenger went to the city and bowed to the monk’s monk and bowed to him and said the desired thing-‘ Seth ji with his son-in-law and brother-in-law came close to the city after being rich with a lot of money. ‘ Hearing this from the messenger’s face, she was overcome with great joy, and that Sadhvi worshiped Sri Satyanarayana and told her daughter, “I’m going to be seated.”This displeased Lord Satyanarayana and he killed her husband and the boat with money and dipped it in the mud.
After that, Kalavati girl fell on earth weeping with great sorrow that her husband had not seen her. Seeing the boat’s invisibility and seeing the girl very sad, terrible thinking about the sadhu baniya-what a surprise? All those who worked the boat were worried too. Later on, Lilavati too was shocked to see the girl and mourned with great sorrow and said to her husband-‘ Just how he got untouched with the boat, not knowing the god was ignored, the boat was taken away or who could know Sreesathyanarayan’s greatness! She began grieving with the kith and kin having said this and Kalavati started crying with a child in her arms.
Kalavati Kanya also became upset about her husband’s devastation and decided to follow and follow her husband’s boots. Having this kind of a girl’s behavior, the ungodly sage monk was depressed and started thinking-either Lord Satyanarayana kidnapped him or we were all intrigued by the illusion of Lord Satyadev. I will worship Lord Sri Satyanarayana, in accordance with my wealth strength. Calling all, and saying so, he conveyed his mind’s desire and repeatedly worshiped Lord Satyadev. This had delighted Lord Satyadev. Bhaktavatsal Bhagavan said graciously-‘ Your girl left Prasad and came to see her husband, this is certainly why her husband became invisible. If you go home and receive the Prasad and then come back, then there is no doubt that your daughter will receive her husband, O Sadhu Baniya.
Shortly after hearing such a voice from the Akashmandal Kanya Kalavati also went home and got the prasad. She came back again and saw her husband and her family. Kalavati Kanya then told her father-‘ Let’s go home now, why are you late? After learning the girl Vanikputra was pleased and worshiped Lord Satyanarayana by law, and went home with money and fences. He went to Satyapur Baikunthalok after worshiping Lord Satyanarayana at the Full Moon and Sankranti Festivals, after having had fun in this universe.
Said Shreesutji-Best monks! Now I will tell you another story after this, you guys are listening. There was a king called Tungadhwaj in loyalty to its subjects. He gave up misery by forsaking Satyadev’s offerings. He went into the forest after a while and killed a lot of animals there, and came under the oak. There he saw the gopganas worshiping Lord Satyadev devotionally, satisfied with the exile. The king did not go there without vanity, nor did he bow to Lord Satyanarayana when he saw this. Upon worshiping, all the gopans came back from there holding the Lord’s Prasad near the king and they all acknowledged the Prasad of the Lord at will. The king felt very sad to lay off the offerings here.
All its riches and hundreds of sons have been lost. In the mind, the king determined that we must have been killed by Lord Satyanarayan. So I should go where they worshiped Shri Satyanarayana. Having decided this in mind, he went close to king Gopganas and regularly worshiped Lord Satyadev with reverence and loyalty to the Gopganas. By the grace of Lord Satyadev, he again became full of riches and daughters, and Satyapur Vaikunthaloka finally got it after eating all of the joy in this universe.
Sreesut Ji says-The person who follows this extremely rare Sri Satyanarayana’s fast and listens to the tale of the Punyamayi and the fruitful God is blessed by Lord Satyanarayana’s blessings. The poor one becomes wealthy, released in slavery from chains, the fearful one becomes fear-free-this is the truth, no doubt. In this universe, he finally goes to Satyapur Vaikunthalok after having received the enjoyment of all the fruits of the crops. Hey, you Brahmins! In this way, I told you Lord Satyanarayana’s fast, whereby man becomes free of all sorrows.
Through Kali Yuga, special fruit would come from worshiping Lord Satyadev. Many people will call Lord Vishnu as Kaal, some as Satya, some as God, some as Satyadev, and some as Satyanarayana. Lord Satyanarayana shows the wish of all by taking many forms. Through Kali Yuga, the supreme Lord Vishnu is the one who takes the form of Satyavrat and fulfills everyone’s wish. Oh, good monks! The person who is reading Lord Satyanarayana’s fasting story, hears, all of his sins are dissolved by Lord Satyarayana’s grace. Hey, monks, People who have done Lord Satyanarayana’s fast in the past tell the story of his next birth, you people should listen.
