Srikalahasti temple also called Srikalahasteeswara temple is situated in the town of Srikalahasti in Andhra Pradesh state, India. Srikalahasti temple is renowned as one of the most famous temples in South India.
The most famous story related to this temple is of bedara kappa. This temple is said to be the site where kanappa was ready to offer both of his eyes to Shiva linga. According to the legend, kappa did this to cover the blood flowing from the Shiva linga. Soon after which Lord Shiva stopped him and granted him mukti.
According to Indian Mythology, there are five temples which are dedicated to Lord Shiva, called Panchabhoota Sthalams. One of the five Panchabhoota Sthalams is Vayu linga representing Wind. This Vayu linga is the linga situated in Srikalahasti Temple, which is located 36 km from Tirupati. This temple is also known as the Rahu-Ketu Temple and Dakshina kailasam. This temple has a scenery sight of the mountains at its back and the river Swarnamukhi flowing in the front.
