Temple overview

Belagur, a small hamlet based between Arsikere and Hosadurga, may not report even a local in Karnataka’s interest. It has no significance in terms of tourism, business or history. An incident that took place in and around 1972 sealed this unknown city’s future forever. A 17-year-old boy whose only asset was his poverty was destined to put his home town on the map of History forever by the benevolent hand of the divinity.

Sri Bindu Madhav Sharma, a member of a Hanuman Temple family of ancestral priests in this city, achieved the exalted self-realization state 30 years ago. Since then, he has transformed the face of this sleepy city into a true “Belakku-Uru” synonymous with the city of lights-Belagur, through the light of his self-transformation.

Temple History

The temple of Sri Veera Pratapa Anjaneya Swamy is situated in Belaguru, Hosadurga Taluk, Karnataka State District of Chitradurga.

This place’s main deity is “Veera Prathapa Anjaneya” by Lord Hanuman. It was constructed about 750 years ago by Sage Vyasaraya. Sri Bindu Madhav Sharma, a member of a Hanuman Temple family of ancestral priests in this city, achieved the exalted self-realization state 30 years ago. Since then he has turned the face of this sleepy town into a real “Belakku-Uru” associated with the city of lights-Belagur through the light of his self-transformation.

Including renovating and restoring Lord Hanuman, Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu’s three temples, the entire credit for rendering the temple as magnificent as it is today goes to the Swamiji. He has built spacious rooms for staying and stopping devotees so they can spend more time in this holy place and absorb their divine vibrations. Homa is performed on every Poornima day and more than a thousand people are fed. Many devotees have witnessed the Swamiji’s miracles that have transformed even the hardest core atheist.
