Male Mahadeshwara Betta is a tourist city situated in kollegal taluk, Chamarajanagara district of southern Karnataka. This is the famous and oldest temple of Shiva pilgrim and dedicated to Lord Shiva. The surrounding region is completely hill area and the temple is located in the middle of seven hills. A grand celebration can be observed in this location during the Deepavali festival. A location called Antharagange is seen much closer to the temple. The unknown water flows from the ground arrises and occurs throughout the year and the origin is not yet known. It is believed that incarnation of Lord Shiva as a Lingayat saint. According to ancient evidence, Mahadeshwara lived in this place in the 15th century and performed penance. It is believed that Mahadeshwara still performs tapas in Garba Griha. He used Huli(Tiger) Vahana as his vehicle and stayed in this hill. Hence he is named as Malemahadeshwara. It is situated about 150 km from Mysuru and about 210 km from Bengaluru.
Best time to visit temple:
Great time to visit the temple is during Diwali, Dasara, Mahalaya Amavasya, Karthika Masa and performing Jathra during these festivals.
