Also known as the Kalabhairaveshwara Swamy temple, Adichunchanagiri. The temple is situated at a height of 3,300 ft in Karnataka in the Adichunchanagiri hills of Mandya district. It’s surrounded by dense forest where we can see free-roaming peacocks. It’s called Mayuravana as well. The god worshipped here is Lord Gangadhareshwara. The hills appear as the moon crested Shiva at the time of the moonrise.
It is one of the old temples whose history has been going on for about 2000 years. Here was founded the ancient Vedic culture. The explanation for spirituality here is all the Yagnas and prayers along with natural resonance. Adirudra gave this temple to Siddha yogi according to some transcriptions. The sanctum of Lord Kalabhyrava has a majestic monolithic temple, 35 feet above ground level. It originally consisted of the sanctum,’ Sanctorum’ or’ Garbha Gruha’ built with a finely sculpted design on a high plinth. One can see the guards of heaven, i.e. Dwarapalakas at the Sanctorum’s very entrance. Temple’s Circumambulatory passage is well distributed.
The temple has an 18-feet width and a total 21-feet height. It is made up of 128 pillars with well-sculpted panels depicting various deities and their divine vehicles. Multiple layers of this temple complex reflect the mind’s energy, will power, and His Holiness ‘ indomitable spirit.
