Temple overview
Ananthagiri Temple is located in Anantharam in the state of Telangana, India. This divine shrine which is located in Telangana is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The head priest of this Temple is Sri Nalapur Sitaram Chary. According to Hindu Purana which is Skanda Purana, It is believed that the Temple was constructed by Rishi Markandeya. This Shrine was installed in Dwapara yuga.
It is said that rishi Markandeya was impressed by the peaceful environment of Ananthagiri hence he decided to perform yoga sadhana there.
There is another legend which states that Muchukunda, after fighting Rakshasas for years and killing Kalayavana, came here for rest. He went into a deep sleep. He then received a boon from indra, who ever disturbs his sleep will be burnt to ashes.
Ananthagiri Temple was so peaceful that Nawab of Hyderabad, often came here to hunt and tae rest. One such day swami padmanabha appeared in nawabs dream and asked him to build a temple for him, which is now known as Ananthagiri Temple.
