Shri Sigandur Chowdeshwari Temple is located in Siganduru, Kalasavalli, Shivamogga in the state of Karnataka, India. This divine temple is the main attraction of village Sigandur. The temple is dedicated to the Goddess  Sigandureshwari who is also known as Chowdeshwari. It is said that the Idol of Goddess was found on the bank of the holy Sharavathi river 300 years ago. Another interesting fact is that the Temple will be flocked with the devotees around the whole year.

History of Sigandur Chowdeshwari Temple

Shree Choudeshwari Temple is situated in the state of Karnataka, district of Shimoga, Sagara Taluk. Sigandur is a prosperous city. Shree Devi kshetra has more than 300 years of history. Sigandur kshetra is close to Thumari, 42 km from the town of Sagar. The name of Mother Choudeshwari is Sigandureshwari. Sigandur is a small town in Sagara Taluk, Karnataka, India. The village is surrounded by the Linganamakki dam constructed by the Sharavathi River on three sides. The place is known for the Temple of Sigandur Chowdeshwari, which every day attracts hundreds of people. The temple is run by the temple committee and as of 2013, Holekoppa Ramappa is the temple committee’s secretary.

Sigandur is approximately 40 kilometers from Sagara Taluk headquarters. Once a dam was constructed on the Sharavathi River, Sigandur was cut off from Sagar. 2 Barges carrying cars, visitors, pilgrims and locals have water-borne communication. The barge service ends every day at 5 p.m.

Sigandur is surrounded on three sides by water and linked on one side by a road that can be reached via Kollur and Nagode. The barge is the main transportation to this location.

Every year, special pooja and worship are conducted in Sigandur during the month of Ashada (June–July). Thousands of people traveling to this place during this pooja are popular due to lack of crowd management, resulting in stampede and injuries to devotees. Every year on the “Makara Sankranthi” day, Sigandureshwari’s fair is held on the 14th and 15th of January. Devotees get a bath in holy water in the river Sharavathi on the day of Makara Sankranthi and pray to the goddess.

How to Reach Sigandur Chowdeshwari Temple

You can reach the Temple of Sri Sigandur Chowdeshwari by ferry or bus. There are two ferries that transport vehicles from one end of the shore to the other as well as people. It takes about an hour to get to Sigandur by local bus from Sagar. So choose any of these choices to suit your needs.

By Road: Sigandur is situated on Sharavathi River’s other side of the backwater (before Jog falls). Citizens must come to the Taluk headquarters, Sagar, to meet Sigandur. Sigandur has access to private cars or private buses from Sagar. You need to hit one side of the bank in the Sharavathi River if you’re coming in your own car. Launch (ferry) service to the other bank (2 km) is available from this branch. The start-up service is only available at 5 p.m. A small village called Kalasavalli is the other side of the river. Sigandur is only ten kilometers from here.
