Shri Omkareshwar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, this temple is believed to be one among the twelve Jyotirlinga’s and hence this Omkareshwar is also known as the Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga, it is located in an Island called Mandhatha(which is in the shape of a Hindu Om), on the banks of the Narmada River Madhya Pradesh, India.
The history of the temple says that Vindhya, the lord or the deity of the Vindhyachala Mountains use to worship Lord Shive in order to protect himself from the sins committed, he created a linga which is made of sand and the clay. Lord Shiva was pleased with the sincere prayers of the Vindhya and appeared in two forms Omkareshwar and Amaleshwar. Since the mud Statue appeared as om it was named as Omkareshwar.
All festivals are celebrated here but Maha Shivrathri, Karthik Utsav and Narmada Jayanthi are the main festivals celebrated in thi Sri Omkareshwar Temple.
