According to mythological story,Shri Neelkanth Mahadev Temple is a place where Lord Shiva who drank the poison that originated from the sea when Asuras (Demons) and Devas (Gods) churned the ocean in order to obtain Amrutha. This poison that obtained during the churning of Samudhra(ocean) which made his throat blue in color. Thus, Lord Shiva(Mahadev) is also known as Neelkanth, because meaning of Neela(blue) Kanth(throat) The Blue Throated One.
