Shree Amarnath Cave Temple is a Hindu temple located in Jammu and Kashmir, India. Shree Amarnath Cave temple is dedicated to Lord Amarnath(Avatar of Lord Shiva) and is considered to be one of the holiest temples in Hinduism. The Amarnath Cave Temple is surrounded by mountains covered with snow, the temple will only be covered by snow for half of the year.
Inside Shree Amarnath Cave Temple there’s a huge rock-like structure that is formed due to freezing of water drops(ice) which falls from the roof of the cave to the ground and this structure is considered to be Shiva linga. According to religious belief, it is stated that the Shiva linga gradually grows and shrinks according to the phases of the moon during summer. Though the path to reach the Amarnath Temple is tough, thousands of people will visit there to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva.
As Amarnath Temple will be closed for half of the years it will be opened only in summer that is in the month of July and August.
