The legend goes to say that the temple’s chief deity was created with a heap of Ragi millet grains and thus it came to be known as Ragigudda-‘ Ragi ‘ meaning millet and’ Gudda’ meaning hill. At about the same time, the holy trinity of Hindu ism-Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma decided to stay close to the same top of the hill and so they changed into rocks near the temple premises.
