Mahakali Temple Pavagadh is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Kali matha (Avatar of Goddess Parvathi), it is located on Pavagadh hills Gujrat, India. Mahakali Temple Pavagadh was constructed in tenth century and believed to be one of the oldest temple.
According to the history of Mahakali Temple Pavagadh, the kali matha was worshipped by the local people then later she was invoked and installed by Vishwamithra on top of the pavagadh hills and then Kali Matha was worshipped in the form of Durga matha or Chandi. The matha temple celebration in Pavagadh says that a Garbha was organised by the people for the celebration of new Temple of kali Matha, kali matha who was pleased by the worship of her devotees appeared in the form of a beautiful lady and danced in the Garbha, the King saw this beautiful lady in a dirty look though she tried to explain the King who she was the king did not agree, then Kali matha become angry and cursed the king that the town will fall, at the same time the King of Maharashtra promised those people and asked them to come to Khandesh and stay there. The Pavagadh’s Mahakali is also worshipped by the Adhivasi people, this temple is believed to be one of the Shakthi Peetha’s.
