Kukke Subramanya Temple is Hindhu temple which is dedicated to Lord Subramanya(the son of Lord Siva and Parvathi). Kukke Subramanya Temple is located in Karnataka, India. Subramanya temple is usually called as the god of serpents it is believed that when Vasuki (the divine serpent) and other serpents were saved by Lord Subramanya when they were attacked by Garuda.
According to the history of Kukke Subramanya Temple, it is believed that after killing the great demons like Tharakasura and Shurapadmasura in a war, Subramanya went to Kumara Parvatha with his brother Lord Ganesha and others. He was welcomed by Indra who was very happy by the defeat of demons, prayed Subramanya to marry his daughter. Kukke Subramanya, one of the seven holy places created by Parashurama is mythologically and historically famous for “Nagaradhane”.Resting in the lap of nature, the Kukke Subramanya Swami temple is situated in the village of Subramanya in the Sullia taluk of Dakshina Kannada District near Mangaluru, Karnataka. It is situated amidst the beautiful and serene Western Ghats where the natural charm is still not spoilt. In this temple, Lord Subramanya, son of Lord Shiva is worshipped as the Lord of all Serpents. Kukke Subramanya Temple is one of the seven sacred Muktikshetras or Mukthistala (place of salvation) in India where many Hindus perform death rites for the departed souls. Lord Subramanya is the main deity worshipped at Kukke Subramanya Temple. The temple faces the east and the main entrance is present at the back of the Sanctum. The devotees enter from the west through main Gopuram and enter the inner quadrangle from the east. There is a pedestal in the centre of the sanctum. On the upper Dias there is the figure of Shree Subramanya and then the idol of Vasuki and little lower the idol of Shesha. While entering the inner quadrangle devotees should remove their shirts and banyans. Between the Sanctum and the entrance is the Silver Plated Garuda Kamba. This pillar is believed to protect devotees from the poisonous breath of Vasuki who resides inside the Sanctum.
