Antara gange is situated in Shanthashrunga mountain range which is located in Kolar district, Karnataka, India. Antara Gange literally means “The Ganges from a deep” in Kannada. Antara Gange is reputed for the temple of Sri Kashi Vishweshwara, also recognized as “Dakshina Kashi”. And this is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. In the temple surroundings, there is a pond that receives a continuous flow of underground water from Basava (bull) mouth. The devotees believe that the water is the holy Ganga that falls from Lord Shiva’s head and if we drink water from the pond it cures many of the diseases. Way to Antar Gange Caves is a steep and narrow route to the top of the mountain. The caves are 3 to 4 km away from the temple. Trekking is most popular around the caves and the tourist does night camping and trekking here.

Mythology:

The Antaragange mountain is associated with Lord Parasurama and Jamadagni. According to Hindu mythology, Parasurama obliterated (destroyed) Kartaviryaarjuna and Jamadagni were annihilated by Kartaviryaarjuna sons and Renuka self-immolated herself in this temple.

How to get to Antaragange:

Antaragange temple is situated four kilometers away from the Kolar town and it is at a distance of 70 kilometers from Bangalore. From Bangalore, you need to catch ksrtc bus and get down in Kolar bus stop. When entering through Antaraganga hill the main entrance you have to climb 350-500 steps. The best time to visit the temple is during the months of September and November.
