Airavateswarar Temple is a hindu temple which is worshiped all over Tamil Nadu. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is located in the Darasuram, Kumbakonam , Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is built by Rajaraja Chola in 12th century. It follows the Vaishnavism and Shaktism Traditions of Hinduism.
Airavateswarar Temple is also know as the stone temple incorporates a chariot structure which also includes major vedic deities such as Indra, Agni, Varuna ect. The temple includes Sapta veedhis locally known as seven streets and also seven courts. The Temple has agra mandapa which has an attached square porch of seven metres side to it. That is ornately carved steps that goes from east to west with the temple architecture . But 0utside the main podium their is the bali-pitham located. According to it ,the produced as intricately carved balustraded steps to be known. When the person steps on them, they automatically produce a musical note. That is the reason the steps are named as “Singing Steps”.
